Hord’Oeuvres Hour: Making Your Favorite Meals Mini

Very often, shortly after the wedding ceremony is completed, the bride and groom, along with the bridesmaids, groomsmen, and closest relatives, will go off with the photographer for a photoshoot.  This creates a span of time when the guests are in a sort of limbo, between ceremony and formal reception.  In order to fill that time gap, many couples choose to offer drinks and snacks, along with music of some type as entertainment.

Offering hor d-oeuvres to tide guests over until dinner is a wonderful option, and can also create a very memorable environment, especially if you have fun with the food.

One of our favorite snack concepts is ‘mini foods’.  Brides and grooms choose some of their favorite foods and miniaturize them, offering them as bite-sized treats.

The Hot Dog It’s an all-American food and one that millions enjoy.  It can also be very effective as hor d-oeuvres.  Miniature hot dogs are readily available.  Small hot dog buns can be made, purchased, or replaced with puff pastry.  To complete the look (and to amplify the taste), the mini dogs can be topped with mustard, ketchup, or relish.

Smothered Baked Potato If you love a baked potato covered in tasty toppings, then shrink it and offer it to your guests.  Bake small potatoes, cut off the tip and hollow them slightly.  Put a dollop of sour cream, sprinkle with cheese, chives, or bacon crumbles.

Tacos Instead of full-sized crunchy shells, opt for scoop-shaped tortilla chips, and fill them with your favorite taco toppings.

Mac and Cheese There are many bite-sized macaroni and cheese hor d’oeuvres ideas online these days, and we love them.  They are a favorite of the young and old alike.  Whether you serve single bite servings with a small spoon, or fry up mac and cheese bites, you can’t go wrong.

Soup and Sandwich Grilled cheese tostinisset on top of a shot glass filled with vegetable soup, corn chowder, or a classic tomato will go over fabulously.
