Wedding Flowers 101

Think Carefully before Ordering. There is a lot to consider when selecting your wedding flowers for the big day, and color is only a small piece of the puzzle.  While a large, tall centerpiece will undoubtedly look stunning on the empty tables of the reception hall, they are likely to cause an issue when they disrupt the view of the guests.  Similarly, some flowers are hardier than others, and choosing those that wilt quickly can leave you with lackluster arrangements on the day of the wedding.

Have Faith in Your Florist. There is a reason why he or she is doing this professionally.  So, trust the eye of the pro.  You should absolutely provide as much input as you can, regarding your likes and dislikes, but leave a little room for interpretation.  You will likely be very pleased with the outcome.

Don’t Wait Too Long Before Ordering. Many brides get carried away with the dress shopping, the song selection, and the venue details, and overlook the importance of getting the flowers ordered.  This can be a big mistake, especially if you are looking for flowers that are out-of-season.  Be sure that you place your order well in advance, so you are sure to get just what you want.

Use the Expensive Flowers Wisely. While many brides will shy away from expensive, unique flowers, and others will bust their budgets trying to get the fanciest bouquets, you can get what you want at the right price.  Using exotic flowers can make a big impact, but intermingle them with less expensive (in season) blooms to add volume without emptying your wallet.

Beware of the Allergy Sufferers. While a room full of lavender and lilac may look beautiful and smell fantastic to you, the stronger scent might spell trouble for those with asthma and allergies.  It is your wedding day, so you should choose the look you love, but do carefully consider how guests will be impacted.  After all, you want those in attendance to remember your day with fond memories.
