4 Ways You Can Make Social Media Work for You on Your Wedding Day

Planning your wedding can be a very exciting and very overwhelming experience.  But, paying attention to the small details really can make a big difference on the day of the event.  Social media can ensure that the extra special day is remembered for months, or even years to come (thank you Facebook memories!)  Here are a few ways that you can use social media to make your big day extra memorable:

  1. A Special Hashtag We’ve made this recommendation before, and it has become a rather common thing for brides and grooms to do.  There is a good reason for that.  The hashtag becomes an easy way for others who attended to locate all of the pictures on social media.  You can include the hashtag on the board that greets those coming into the reception space, on the ceremony programs, or even on cards placed on the table settings.
  2. Stream Snap Chat This is something that we’ve seen done only once thus far, but it is a great idea. The couple asked that all those in attendance take pictures and share them via snapchat to an account formed by the couple for the wedding day.  As the pictures came in, they were shared via a projector screen, for all to see.
  3. Customer Filters This is something recently introduced by Snapchat fairly recently. For a small fee, you can opt to create your very own Snapchat filters that have a wedding theme.  The filters, according to the social media platform, are good for eight hours and will apply to all accounts being used within 20,000 square feet of the designated event.
  4. Social Media Rules In conjunction with the previous three ideas, it is a good idea to have social media rules posted at your wedding. Many brides and grooms don’t want pictures, videos and live feeds shared during the ceremony.  If you are among those who don’t want that to happen, be sure to alert guests in advance, and let them know when you’ll be ready for those pictures to be shared.
